SLAM ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS OF WFA PLAYOFFS

The St. Louis SLAM women’s full contact football team advanced in the 2009 WFA playoffs on Saturday with a 30-12 first round win over the Las Vegas Showgirlz.  The Showgirlz kept it close through three quarters before the SLAM began to pull away.  The SLAM now advance to the semifinal round of the playoffs to take on the Jacksonville Dixie Blues at Oakville High School on July 25.  The winner will advance to the 2009 WFA championship game to be played in New Orleans.

The SLAM jumped out to a lead on Saturday with two rushing TDs from fullback, Chris “The Bus” Hampton (9 carries, 22 yards, 2 TDs), and a receiving TD from wide receiver, Gail Graff (3 receptions, 61 yards, 1 TD).  Las Vegas stayed within striking distance, answering with two passing TDs, including a halfback pass from tailback, Nikki Johnson.  Looking to open up the lead, veteran tailback, Pat Riggins (11 carries, 60 yards, 1TD), broke free on a 32 yard sprint to the endzone late in the second half.  Linebacker, Rachael Hinkle (6 tackles, 1 pass deflection, 1 safety), rounded out the scoring with a safety and the SLAM now moves on to a home field semifinal matchup with Jacksonville.  The SLAM defense held one of the top offenses in the league to only 12 points with big hits from linebacker, Kelly Kozlen (15 tackles), and two forced fumbles from defensive end, Liz Williams (6 tackles).

The SLAM will face one of the top all-around teams in the league and past league champion when they take on the Jacksonville Dixie Blues next Saturday in what should be an exciting playoff matchup.  Tickets are now available for the semifinal playoff game taking place on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Oakville High School at 7:00pm.  Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for children.  For more game day and playoff ticket information please visit the website at www.stlslam.com or contact the SLAM at slamfootball@hotmail.com.
