SLAM SHOWCASES ROOKIE TALENT IN WIN OVER DAYTON
ByThe St. Louis SLAM women’s full contact football team rolled over the Dayton Diamonds on Saturday at Oakville High School with a score of 70-0. The SLAM posted its first shutout on the season, lit up the scoreboard, and showcased the future of the SLAM with big performances from a number of first-year players. Rookie tailback, Nikki Taylor (4 rushes, 102 yards, 1 TD), and rookie fullback, Nicole Dickerson, recorded their first touchdowns of their careers, leading the ground attack. Rookie tight end, Nicole Notorangelo (2 receptions, 80 yards, 1 TD), also scored the first points of her career as she outran the Dayton secondary for a 75 yard TD reception in the second half. Defensive linemen, Alana Fields (8 tackles) and Kamilah Russell (3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble), continued their strong start in their first season for the SLAM. On special teams, rookie corner, Tiffany Williams-Buckley, added a 63 yard punt return for a touchdown, making it a great all-around day for the SLAM rookies.
The SLAM scored early and often in the game. League leading receiver, Kate Evers, added 3 more touchdowns on a TD reception, a punt return, and a kickoff return, giving her 7 touchdowns on the season. Quarterback, Liz Lacy, spread the ball out, passing for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns in the game. The defense was solid throughout, with linebacker, Tiffany Pugh, putting the first points of the game on the board with a 15 yard fumble returned for a touchdown.
The SLAM head into a bye week and next take on the Chicago Force in Chicago on April 30th. The next SLAM home game takes place on May 21, 2010, against the Chicago Force. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm at Oakville High School. Tickets are $10, $8 for seniors, $5 for children.
